HORMONES: ANOTHER PIECE OF THE PUZZLE
Many of the issues I see as a haptotherapist (emotional problems, problems coping with stress, feeling flat/anxious/down-ish) can have a root in hormonal imbalance. We should be better trained in this area! Many problems like moodswings, pms and burn-out very often affect women in (peri)menopause.
As a pelvic- and sexual health expert, I also encounter women who experience pain and discomfort due to hormonal imbalance. This limits the amount of sexual and sensual pleasure you are able to experience.
In these cases I find that therapy alone does not address the underlying issues and symptoms don’t seem to improve according to what might be expected.
I decided to invest time and energy in my own hormonal health for a year; implementing extensive lifestyle changes. I experienced that most of my hormonal issues resolved themselves. Food and sleep being my major needle movers.
After that I was convinced that this would benefit many women. I chose to get additional training in this area to be able to better guide women in making doable and durable nutrition-/lifestyle changes specifically aimed at improving hormonal function and health.
